Tito Charneco Biography

Tito Charneco is a jazz musician born to Puerto Rican parents in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in a culturally rich environment. The third of four children, he was immersed in music from a young age, which sparked his desire to perform and explore global cultures through sound. Tito pursued formal education in music, earning a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas in 2002, followed by a Master's in the same field in 2013, and is currently in the last months of completing his Doctorate in Musical Arts with a Jazz Performance focus.

Throughout his career, Tito has led various musical projects, with his 2012 album Diaspora showcasing his original compositions that blend jazz, Latin, and other musical influences. He has also collaborated with a wide range of prominent bands and musicians, showcasing his skill and adaptability across various musical styles and settings. Tito has worked with groups like the Brad Leali & Shelley Carroll Big Band and Jose Aponte’s Caribe Club. In 2014, Tito moved to Cologne, Germany, where he expanded his musical repertoire and performed across Europe with renowned musicians and recorded, The Köln Project, a follow-up to Diaspora which highlighted his evolving musical style as influenced by his experiences living in Europe.

After relocating to New York City in 2018, Tito continued his work in both the jazz and Latin jazz scenes, collaborating with notable artists, including Grammy-winning bassist John Benitez and 7-time Grammy-winning composer, bandleader, and pianist, Arturo O'Farrill.

Tito’s most current project, Julia de Burgos, pays tribute to the iconic Puerto Rican poet through a unique fusion of Latin jazz and her powerful words, blending music and poetry to honor her legacy.
